Privacy notice

Business Nous is run by Andy Jackson, who operates as a sole trader and is the data controller for the information described here. For anything in this notice, email andy@businessnous.com.

While the site says “coming soon”, it holds one thing about you: an email address. If you used the “Notify me” box, we have that address so we can tell you when the academy opens. The form is handled by Netlify, our hosting provider. There are no analytics on this page, no advertising trackers and no cookies. The courses, accounts and payments described below are not switched on yet.

The waiting list

Your address is used for one message — that we have opened — plus the occasional note beforehand if there is genuinely something worth saying. The lawful basis is your consent, given when you submitted the form. Reply to any email asking to come off, or email the address above, and you are removed. We will not pass it to anyone else and we will not sell it.

When the academy opens

Once accounts go live, this notice will cover the following, and it will be updated before that happens rather than after:

Your account — name, email address and password, held in Supabase, the database behind the platform, encrypted in transit and at rest.
Your learning — which courses you are enrolled on, your progress through lessons and any certificates earned. This is what makes the dashboard work.
Payments — taken by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach us; we receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and which course it was for.

The basis for all of that is the contract between us: you cannot have an account or a course without it.

Who processes it

Netlify — hosting and form handling. Logs standard access data such as IP address.
Supabase — the database holding accounts, enrolments and progress, once live.
Stripe — payment processing, once live. Stripe is a data controller in its own right for the payment itself.

Nobody else. Some pages link out to Amazon for recommended books; follow one and you are on their site, under their terms.

How long we keep it

Waiting-list addresses are deleted once the academy has opened and the announcement has gone out, unless you have by then created an account. Account and course records are kept while your account is open and for six years after it closes, which is the period needed for tax and consumer-contract purposes.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, withdraw consent, or object to how it is used. Email andy@businessnous.com and it will be dealt with within a month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
